I first experienced the thrill of making something beautiful in the digital realm in the days of MySpace. I was *obsessed* with designing the perfect page. The notion of having a space on the internet where you could design, create, and showcase your identity really got me excited. I spent hours scouring the internet for html layouts to give the perfect amount of negative space. I took photos of myself on my digital camera documenting and sharing my style choices at the time. I even added a song to my page - any Taking Back Sunday fans out there? I'm cringing too.
Jokes aside, I was in total a state of flow - fully and energetically immersed in what was actually early brand identity. Of course I didn't know it at that time. I was just doing my thing, and bless my parents for giving me the freedom to do so. But seriously, when I look back, I was engaged in all the things that light me up from the inside out. Each subsequent step I took unintentionally honed and nurtured this unique passion and skill set. From sewing my own clothes in high school, to going to college to study Fashion Marketing, to working within the fashion industry as an independent Visual Merchandiser, to going back to school to get my Bachelors of Commerce, to then growing a successful internationally recognized e-commerce brand - all these experiences molded me into the person I am today. Please understand, that’s the hugely condensed highlight reel. There were so many failures. But failures are good - in fact, they’re essential to growth. It really did take me a while to zoom out and connect these dots. But when I did, it really became clear to me I’m in alignment with my purpose.
So, here I am in 2022, honouring this part of myself that truly feeds my soul, and I hope will feed yours as well. It’s a true pleasure of mine to embark upon this journey together.
